The Junior Blues of Washburn Rural Dominates The Centennial League Tourney

Washburn Rural as expected, dominated the Centennial League Tournament with winning six weight classes and scoring 202.5 team points that easily recognizes them as this year’s cream of the crop team within the league. The Junior Blues, with winning their first ever state team championship title last year in 6A, are certainly on track to duplicate that achievement once again. All year long the Junior Blues have bounced back and forth in the 6A polls with being a regular strong hold in the top five rankings. The Junior Blues currently ranked #3 are so talented in their lower weights that typically they get a running start on their competition that mathematically has other teams playing catch up both mentally and physically. This years league tournament was no different as Washburn Rural crowned six champions with five in the lower weights with Easton Broxterman @ 106, Jonathan Morrison @ 113, Henri McGivern @ 120, Jacob Tangpricha @ 126 and Brody Byrne @ 132, Aidan Boline @ 160, and putting on the finishing touches with Austin Fager @ 182. If that wasn’t enough, the Junior Blues placed three other wrestlers in the top four to solidify why they are so deep and talented and worthy of all their praises.

The Manhattan Indians meanwhile made some noise of its own, as the fourth ranked team in Class 6A finished as League Runner-Up with crowning three champions of their own with Easton Taylor @ 138, Tucker Brunner @ 152 and Talique Houston @ 220. Adding to their second place team finish score of 174.5 points, the Indians placed seven other wrestlers in the top four who contributed to their success.

Emporia, a long time powerhouse in Class 5A, is starting to emerge once again this year as a team that can battle with the best of them. Led by their standout wrestler Xerarch Tungjaroenkul, ranked #1 @ 145, the Spartans finished with four Runner-Ups, 2 bronze medalist and two fourth place finishers to end up taking home a 3rd place team trophy.

Topeka Seaman on the other hand with finishing 4th in the team race, managed to crown a couple of champions with Deyton Mentzer @ 170 and Jaxson Thomas @ 195 leading the way for the Vikings.
