Returning to the mat for the first time since November 15, the Cowley College wrestling team shook off the rust and picked up victories in seven weight classes while competing Saturday at the Bob Smith Open in Hays, KS.

A total of 21 teams competed at the meet, with the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, and the Air Force Academy highlighting the list of teams at the Bob Smith Open.

Cowley College sophomore Aidan O’Dell went 4-2 and placed fifth in the 133-pound weight class, with his only two losses coming to wrestlers from the University of Oklahoma and the Air Force Academy.

Aidan O’Dell had a great showing and as a team, we wrestled well as a whole,” Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. “We had some good wins from top to bottom. We are battling an injury bug, so for some guys to go in wrestling at less than 100% showed their toughness. We are still working, but it was a good showing for us.”

Chance Davis also wrestled well and went 5-2 in the 165-pound weight class, while Ryker Agee (141 pounds), Lewis Caples (197 pounds), and Stefaan Fearon (285 pounds) each won a pair of matches at the meet.

Cowley will have some time off for Winter break before competing at the Barton Open on Sunday, January 10, at 9 a.m. in Great Bend, KS.
