Men's Wrestling Compete at Bob Smith Open

After a tough loss on Friday against No. 18 ranked (NCAA Divsion II) Nebraska-Kearney University, men’s wrestling bounced back, traveling down to Fort Hays State to compete in the Bob Smith Open on Saturday.

“This is the best group I’ve had since I’ve been here at Northwest Tech,” commented Coach Guillot. “This last weekend tested our mental and physical toughness, and to watch the team compete on Saturday was encouraging to watch.”

UNK Dual Notable Performances:

Otgonbayar Batsuuri (174lbs) won by Major Decision over former NWKTC All-American, Jacobi Deal by Major Decision.

Bob Smith Open Notable Performances:

Dayton Bell (149lbs) placed 5th going 5-2 on the day with two Major Decision wins over NCAA Division I and Division II opponents.

Dawson Hogan (149lbs) went 2-2, with one Fall and one Tech Fall against a Division I opponent. 

Job Lee (157lbs) went 4-2, with two Falls on the day, only losing his two matches to Nebraska-Kearney wrestler, Tyler Collins, after having to wrestle against Nebraska-Kearney’s first team wrestler, Nicholas Stoltenberg, the previous day.

Micah Castro (157lbs) went 2-2, with one win by Major Decision and one by Fall.

Lazaro Crespo (184lbs) 5-1, with two Falls on the day with five of his six opponents NCAA Division I or Division II wrestlers.

Men’s wrestling will return to competition on December 14th, against No. 1 ranked Western Wyoming Community College in Mead, CO.
