CONCORDIA, Kan. – The number 20-ranked Cloud County Community College wrestling would take a 31-15 home defeat to number five-ranked Cowley Community College in Kansas Jayhawk Community College action inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 9th.

The dual loss moves CCCC to 3-3 overall and 2-3 in the KJCCC this season as the Tigers remain undefeated at a perfect 5-0 in KJCCC duals.

Cowley would jump out to an early lead thanks in part to a pair of victories to start the dual as number six-ranked Austin Kincaid would defeat Cloud County’s Aiden Connors by a 13-2 major decision while number four-ranked James Davis for the T-Birds would fall to Ryan Smith by a score of 7-4 at 133 pounds. Following the 133 pound match, Cowley would be deducted a team point for unsportsmanlike conduct as CCCC would trail the Tigers 6-0 heading into the 141-pound bout.

At 141 pounds, Cowley would add to their lead as Malik Johnson would manage to work his way to a 23-7 technical fall over Michael Barfuss to put the Tigers up 11-0. T-Bird sophomore Joel Ostrom would then get Cloud County on the board with a quick 1:34 pin of Jacorey Miller from Cowley to cut into the Tiger lead and make it an 11-6 match heading into the middle weights.

Cowley would come back with an 11-2 decision at 157 pounds before seeing Cooper Mosier cut the deficit for Cloud County once more at 165 pounds with a 15-4 major decision over Montez Robinson at 165 pounds. The Tigers would take each of the next two matches, with a fall at 174 pounds and 15-3 major decision at 184 pounds to clinch the match and take a lead of 25-10 with two weight classes remaining. Zach Ferris would cap off the night for the T-Birds at 197 pounds by earning a 16-3 major decision over Tyler Bingham as Cloud County would give up an open weight class at heavyweight to the Tigers to end the dual.

What’s Next?

Cloud County will hit the road and make one of only two scheduled regular-season trips outside of Kansas when they travel to Sterling, Colorado for a double-dual with Northeastern Junior College and number two-ranked Western Wyoming College. Northeastern JC has wrestled only twice this season in a double-dual with Western Wyoming and Northwest Wyoming Community College on January 30th while the Mustangs will also be wrestling in their second-date of competition on Saturday.
