Newton Railroaders Derail its Competition to Win Its Own Invitational

The Newton Railroaders welcomed 34 teams to its 59th Newton Tournament of Champions Invitational and derailed its competition by engineering a masterful Polar Express plan of mat destruction to easily outdistanced any and all of its foes.

Once the tournament progressed, it was quite apparent opponents were not about to get a free ride of championship gifts without producing a punched ticket.

The Railers in essence, became their own Train Conductors by checking to see if opponents had a passenger ticket to get on board. In fact, state placers and doubting wrestlers took an extraordinary train ride through Newton to embark on a journey of self-discovery that showed hope never fades for those who believe that a powerhouse team back in the day, can once again emerge.

Newton proved it is the real deal with dethroning all three defending team champions in Class 6A, 5A and 4A. As burden of proof of demonstrating the Railers overall team strength, Newton placed seven wrestlers that included three champions with Nick Treaster leading the way as a Two-Time State Champion @ 113, along with Logan Buchanon @ 220 and Rio Gomez @ 285. All this materialized in a field that featured six of the top ranked teams in 6A, five ranked teams in 5A, two ranked teams in 4A, and one in 3,2,1A.
