Jerrdon Fisher needed some late heroics and the Goddard senior delivered when he needed points.
Fisher secured a takedown over Tyler Antoniak of Millard South (Nebraska) with 20 seconds left and won the 152-pound title at the Kansas City Stampede on Saturday at Bartle Hall in Kansas City.
“I’m getting used to those and figuring out how to wrestle in those matches; it was exciting,” said Fisher, ranked No. 1 in KansasWrestling.com 152-pound poll. “I just knew I had to get a takedown that last minute and that would be the match that is what I’m going for.”
Fisher got a takedown early against Stillwater’s Kael Voinovich and then an escape in the second period made the difference in a semifinal win against the Oklahoman. In the quarterfinals, Fisher stuck in-state rival Jeremiah Kelly of Maize in 1:56.
Fisher finished 6-0 with two pins and two tech falls to go with the two close decisions — his reward was a giant belt buckle.
