Ashlynn Goodwin: KC Stampede Champ

Ashlynn Goodwin took first at the USA Wrestling Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals on Halloween and once the high school season started, she’s been unbeatable.

The Goddard standout won the 141-pound title at the two-day Kansas City Stampede that wrapped up on Saturday at Bartle Hall in Kansas City.

The 143-pound KSHSAA champion went 4-0 and won all four of her matches by pins against Missouri opponents. She beat Wentzville Holt’s Maria Slaughter by a pin in the third period (5:28) but held a 7-2 lead at the time.

“This is one of the biggest (tournaments) …. probably the biggest one I will go to, so it is a cool experience,” Goodwin said. “I would say this tournament is what I thought it would be with a lot of tough competition here.”
