WICHITA, Kan. – The Newman Wrestling team hosted the Jet Duals which included two other MIAA teams, Central Oklahoma and Fort Hays State, along with Emmanuel College. The Jets would start the day off taking on Central Oklahoma in what would count as an MIAA Conference Contest while Fort Hays State would take on Emmanuel. Newman would finish out the day taking on Emmanuel, while Fort Hays State and Central Oklahoma would wrestle exhibition matches.

The Jets would struggle in their opening match as the Bronchos would win all but one match on their way to a 40-5 victory over the Jets. The one bright spot for Newman was their two time All-American Kameron Frame who beat UCO’s Anthony Des Vignes with a 18-0 Tech Fall.

Newman would salvage the day by going 1-1 in their duals as they would defeat Emmanuel 40-12. The Jets would jump out to a commanding 34-0 lead early behind four straight falls by Kameron Frame, JD Johnson, Nate Panagakis and Ivan Balavage. JJ Gilbert would win a 17-5 major decision at 125 lbs for the final four points. After a forfeit for the Jets at 133 lbs, Tyler Lawley would get Newman back on the board with an 8-5 decision to extend the Newman lead to 37-6. Newman would forfeit 149 lbs and Baylor Smith would finish the day for the Jets with a 3-1 decision.

The Jets will be back in action on Saturday January 23rd as they travel to Kearney, Neb. to take part in the Midwest Duals.
