Wray, Colorado Wins St. Francis Invite

From years past, since the early 1960’s, St Francis has played host to this far northwestern wrestling tournament in Kansas that brings in nearby competition from the states of Colorado and Nebraska.

And if you look at the histogram of this region when it comes to competitive wrestling competition, it’s easy to see that many state championships were won by schools that participated in or around the area no matter what state you were from.

So in essence, there was never any lack of competition from nearby schools within a 60 mile radius of St. Francis, as the town became better known as the hot bed of Kansas wrestling as the sport brought about bagging rights to the community.

Now due to the popularity of the sport during the peak of its hey day, small towns like St. Francis would literally shut down for the evening and farmers would finish up chores early just so those folks could be in attendance.

Consequently, on any given night, those in attendance witnessed some of the most talented wrestling action and heated rivalries our state had to offer with seeing first hand many individuals and state championship teams participating in local gyms.
