Mavericks split with Pratt and Neosho

The Maverick wrestling team went out to Chanute Kansas to take on #6 undefeated Pratt and #10 Neosho. The Mavericks started the evening taking on Pratt, which they lost to at home earlier in the season. Skyler Hunt started the dual losing by technical fall over returning National Champion, Michael Spangler. Cody Francis and Samuel Blackmon got pinned as well. Down 17-0 going into the 149lb matchup between #3 141lb Chinzorig Tsermaa and #1, 149lb Jake Beeson of Pratt. Chinzorig made the necessary adjustment to avenge a double overtime loss earlier in the season. Chinzorig won by technical fall over Jake Beeson. The momentum swung to the Mavericks who won the next 4 of 5 matches, but would ultimately lose the dual 24-21.
Neosho panthers were the second matchup and the dual started at 133 pounds. Francis started with a pin and then it was a back and forth dual until the Deal twins continued their dominance in the third period. Jacari was down by six points going into the third period. Jacari got thrown to his back for 6 points to end the first period. ?Jacari never lost his composure, he trains to wrestle 12 minutes and it showed! Jacari trusts his training and knows he has the toughest partner in the country everyday. Coach Weatherspoon pushes us everyday and we have to be on everyday at practice to wrestle coach? said Guillot. Alex Vigil of Lajunta, Colorado showed his desire to compete and was out matched and outsized at heavyweight. ?Alex has the biggest heart of anyone I?ve ever coached. He is a true warrior that puts his team first. Skyler Hunt needed to come out victorious for the mavericks to come out on top.” Skyler rose to the occasion and ended up pinning his opponent to put the dual away for the Mavericks. Skyler Hunt said “this was the highlight of my career so far, not often you get to win a dual for your team as a 125 pounder. It felt really good to break my loosing streak in such a big match.”
Mavericks will be home on Tuesday starting at 4:00 mountain time in the Max Jones Field House. The Mavericks will take on Cloud then Barton. 5:30 and 7:00pm are the start times for the Maverick wrestling team.
