[Wrestling] Swedes Grapple With Three KCAC Opponents In Duals

OTTAWA, Kan. – The Swedes wrestling team has been in action with three KCAC duals on Saturday and Wednesday night. Bethany has gone 1-1 in the duals with one of the contests having no team score with only exhibition matches.

Ottawa – 32, Bethany – 10

The Swedes picked up seven points quickly when senior, Logan McDowell won a 2-0 decision and sophomore, Trey Edwards, picked up a 10-3 major decision. After that, the Braves went on a streak winning the next six bouts. Sophomore, Dustin Mason picked up the final three points for the Swedes with a 7-6 decision win.

KWU, Bethany – No Team Score

Four Swedes wrestled exhibition matches on Saturday in Salina against the host school, Kansas Wesleyan. Bethany picked up half of the wins with freshman, Joshua Wilson defeating his opponent by fall in 4:32. He was followed by freshman, Trey Mason who won his match by a 5-2 decision.

Bethany – 25, Saint Mary – 22

The Swedes picked up a thrilling win over conference opponent, Saint Mary. Bethany picked up three wins quickly as the teams started with the largest weight class, before moving to the 125 lb. class. Freshman, Brix Brickey won a 7-2 decision before McDowell pinned his opponent in 1:10. Finally, Edwards then picked up a win due to an empty weight class on the Spires’ end. Saint Mary then picked a win before freshman, Thomas Hawkins won an 11-6 decision and junior, Victor Monarrez won a 6-4 decision. Three falls in a row in favor of Saint Mary gave the Spires 18 additional points before the Swedes sealed their fate with D. Mason’s 15-4 major decision win.

The Swedes return to the mat for a home dual on Saturday, February 2. Bethany hosts the Broncos of Hastings College at 1 p.m. inside Hahn Gymnasium.
