[Women's Wrestling] Curry Finishes Third as Baker Women's Wrestling Competes at York Open

YORK, Neb. – Over the weekend, the Baker women’s wrestling team competed in their first tournament of the season, participating in the York Open in York, Neb.

Jennifer Curry had a great day on the mat, as she went 4-1 on the day to take third place in the event. Curry started the day off with a strong 8-1 decision over the No. 4 ranked wrestler in the NAIA, Alyssa Schrull of Jamestown to advance to the quarterfinals.

Curry then got a big pin in the quarterfinals over Iman Thomas in just 1:27 to advance to the semifinal match. After a loss to Paige Baynes, Curry took down No. 4 Schrull of Jamestown for the second time in the tournament by a 3-1 decision to advance to the third place match.

Curry then put together another strong performance to defeat Breanna Jennings of Wayland Baptist by a 10-1 decision to finish in third place on the day.

Teammate Mallory Meade competed at the York Open on Saturday as she competed in three matches, winning her second match by forfeit to score 2.5 points for the Wildcats.

The Baker women’s wrestling team will compete again on Friday, Jan. 31, when they travel to Leavenworth, Kan., to compete in the Spire Open beginning at 1 p.m.
