Chanute, KS – The Panther Wrestiling team kicked off their season hosting their first home dual on Tuesday evening and fell to Labette 41-7. The Panthers got off to a strong start with victories at 125 and 133. Ed Wilkowski (Fr., Watertown, WI) looked very impressive with an 8-0 major decision over Labette’s Kolton Misner at 125 and Teyton Burns (Fr. Bristow, OK) also had a strong performance with an exciting a 11-5 decision over Caydon Miller at 133. Jonathan Perryman (Fr. Lebanon, MO) also wrestled well but came up short, losing  a 8-6 decision.

Coach Hansen said, “Wilkowski and Burns dictated their matches tonight. Wilkowski dominated the entire match. Burns got off to a slow start and gave up an early takedown but once he started wrestling his match, it was all Burns. They wrestled tough tonight and we have high expectations for both Wilkowski and Burns this season.”

“There are others in the lineup who we expect more from but they did not show up tonight. All we can do is learn from the experience, get back on the mats, improve and move forward.”

The Panthers will travel to Baldwin City, KS this Sunday, Nov. 5 and compete in the Dan Harris Open at Baker University.
