[Men's Wrestling] MWR: #14 Braves Secured the KCAC Invitational Title on Saturday

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Ottawa University men’s wrestling team secured the KCAC Invitational Title on Saturday. The Braves finished first overall out of four teams. Parker Wright, Gabriel McDuffie, Cameron Young-Leggett and Carson Savage finished first in their weight divisions.

125lb Weight Division

Freddy Maisberger IV won a 13-7 decision over Dezmond McSellers (York College). Maisberger IV was injured in the next match and did not compete again.

133lb Weight Division

Bobby Robinson Jr. finished third overall in the 133lb weight division. Robinson Jr. won his first match over Kaden Goff (Bethany) by a fall. Robinson Jr. was upended in the semifinal match by a 4-1 decision by Pierce Mederois (York College). He won his next two matches over William Wright and Goff (Bethany), defeating both by falls and secured third place.

William Wright went 1-2 in his matches in the 133lb weight division. Wright was defeated in a 10-4 decision by Jonathan Halk (York College). In the next match, he defeated Quintin Talbert by a 14-9 decision. Wright was then tripped up in a fall by Bobby Robinson Jr.

Quintin Talbert was defeated by Isaiah Jasso (York College) in a 13-6 decision. Talbert was upended by William Wright by a 14-9 decision.

141lb Weight Division

Parker Wright won the 141lb weight division by going 3-0 in his matches. Wright won by a technical fall in the quarterfinal round over Anthony Aragon (York College). In the semifinals, Wright defeated Frederick Eggleston (York College) by a 10-1 major decision. Wright defeated Brayden Smith (York College) by a 4-0 decision to take home first place.

149lb Weight Division

Ryan Delforge took home second place on Saturday. In the quarterfinal match, Delforge upended Collen Fergusson (Oklahoma Wesleyan) by a fall. Delforge defeated Chad Sakamoto (Oklahoma Wesleyan) by a 10-1 decision in the semifinals. Delforge fell to John Fox (York College) in the first place match by a 9-5 decision.

Melle Dye fell in his first match to John Fox (York College) by a 6-0 decision. Dye was defeated in his next match by Chad Sakamoto (Oklahoma Wesleyan) by a fall.

Ryan Wahl placed fourth in the 141lb weight class. He was upended in his first match by John Fox (York College) by a 7-1 decision. In the consolation semifinals, Wahl defeated Collen Fergusson (Oklahoma Wesleyan) by a fall. Chad Sakamoto (Oklahoma Wesleyan) defeated Wahl by an 11-5 decision.

157lb Weight Division

Ottawa secured the top three placers in the 157lb weight division. Gabriel McDuffie finished first, Cordell Hunt finished second and Brock Chapman came in third.

Gabriel McDuffie won by fall over Isaiah Santana (York College) in the quarterfinal match. In the semifinal match, McDuffie defeated Brock Champan by a fall. In the finals, McDuffie won by forfeit over Cordell Hunt.

Cordell Hunt defeated Shawn Pierre (York College) by a fall in the quarterfinal match. In the semifinals, Hunt won a 6-3 decision over Andrew Mahoney (Oklahoma Wesleyan). Hunt was defeated by McDuffie in the finals by a forfeit.

Brock Chapman fell to McDuffie by a fall in his first match. Chapman followed up with a win over Shawn Pierre (York College) by a fall. Chapman won his final match by forfeit over Andrew Mahoney (Oklahoma Wesleyan)

165lb Weight Division

Kolby Droegemeier took home third place by going 2-1 in his matches. Droegemeier was upended in his first match by Jaden Welden (Oklahoma Wesleyan) by a 10-3 decision. In the consolation semifinals, Droegemeier defeated Cody Pederson (York College) by a fall. Droegemeier won third place by defeating Fernando Servin (York College) by a 10-7 decision.

174lb Weight Division

JD Perez secured second place at the Invitational. Perez won his first match by a fall over Dylan Archuleta (Bethany College). He followed with another victory over Lennorise Echols (York College) by a fall. In the finals, Perez fell to Dailen Presgrove (Oklahoma Wesleyan).

Micah Miller finished third overall in the 174lb weight division. Dailen Presgrove (Oklahoma Wesleyan) defeated Miller by a fall in the first match. Miller responded by winning a 19-5 major decision over Chase Pywell (Bethany College). Miller defeated Lennorise Echols (York College) by a fall to secure third.

Hunter Remigio was upended by Dailen Presgrove (Oklahoma Wesleyan) by a fall. Remigio was defeatd by Lennorise Echols (York College) by a fall in the following match.

184lb Weight Division

Cameron Young-Leggett won the 184lb weight division by winning his two matches of the day. Young-Leggett defeated Jarvis Echols (York College) by a fall in the semifinals. In the final match, Young-Leggett won an 11-5 decision over Ridge Smith (Oklahoma Wesleyan) to take the title.

Xavier Schecter fell to Jarvis Echols (York College) by a fall. In the following match, Schecter was defeated in an 8-5 decision by Misael Monnarez (Bethany College)

197lb Weight Division

Carson Savage won the 197lb weight division by going 2-0 in his matches. Savage defeated Zachary Ortiz (York College) by a fall. In the final match, Savage won over Marce Vasquez (York College) by a fall to secure first place.

285lb Weight Division

Benito Hernandez finished second overall in the 285lb weight class. Hernandez won by fall over Deonnie Graves (York College) in the quarterfinal match. Hernandez followed up with a 17-7 major decision victory over Collin Rossillion (Bethany College). In the finals, Hernandez fell to William Mason (Bethany College) by forfeit.

The Braves will be back in action on February 13th at the National Qualifier. The National Qualifier location and time will be determined at a later date.
