Men's Wrestling Awaits Ranked Opponent and Open

The Fort Hays State men’s wrestling team hits the road again this upcoming weekend for a top-25 dual against Northern State and an open tournament at Dakota Wesleyan.
The dual with the #11 Wolves of Northern State is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 9), and the open will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 11).
 
The Tigers come into this week’s action at 1-1 after two road duals last week. The Tigers fell to DI Northern Colorado but were able to handily beat New Mexico Highlands for their first win of the 2023-24 season.
 
Fort Hays State is 5-2 all-time against Northern State in a series that began back in 1972. The most recent meeting was 40-0 loss for the Tigers last year at Midwest Duals in Kearney, Neb. Northern State currently has four wrestlers that are nationally ranked, three of which are listed in their projected starting lineup for the dual. Wyatt Turnquist enters the season as the top wrestler in the country at 149 pounds for Northern State.
 
This will be the third-straight year the team is Competing in the Dakota Wesleyan Open. The team has had six placers each of the last two seasons at the tournament in Mitchell, S.D. including Tereus Henry who placed second last season, and Cody Hicks as well as Cade Lindsey who both placed fourth in their respective weight classes.
 
The Tigers had 13 wrestlers record a win last week between the two duals. Kevin Honas, Marcell Dely, Cody Hicks, and Juan Urbina were some of the 13 Tiger wrestlers to notch victories.
 
Fort Hays State will compete again next Saturday (Nov. 18) at the Younes Hospitality Open hosted by Nebraska-Kearney.
