Jacksonville, Ill. – The Southwestern College women’s wrestling team concluded their first ever tournament in school history this past weekend at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Competing in the Bob Kellogg Tournament at MacMurray, a lot was to be proud of in the inaugural matches of the first season of the program. In this tournament, the only player competing was Nisa Muhammad (FR/Forth Worth, Texas), who finished 0-2 on the day, but made great strides throughout and is showing improvement since the first day of practice.

In round one, Muhammad fell to Rachel Mitchell of the Viking Wrestling Club. After receiving a bye in the second wave of matches, Muhammad ended the day with a defeat to the host school and Samantha Bush of MacMurray. Final results of the entire tournament can be found here.

Head coach Sarah Bollinger was thrilled with the progress made and performance of Muhammad in the first two matches of the year.

She wrestled well and executed all the moves we had drilled,” Bollinger said. “It is great motivation for our future goals.”

The wrestling team will have some time off before they are back on the mats as next up on their schedule is an exhibition duel at York College in Nebraska. Their next tournament will December 1st at the Wayland Baptist Invitational in Plainview, Texas.
