Tigers Compete in Prestigious Missouri Valley Open

Marshall, Mo. – The Central Christian College of Kansas Women’s Wrestling team travelled to Missouri Valley College to participate in the Missouri Valley Open, which is the largest women’s collegiate wrestling tournament in the country featuring over 50 teams and 450 individuals.

The Tigers were represented by Laela Marie Ridgeway (101), Caxton Smyth (123), Marisol Castillo (136), and Emily Hess (170).

Laela Marie Ridgeway lost her opening round match by tech fall against Riley Banyas (Campbellsville University) (TF 12-2). In the consolation round, Ridgeway would lose by fall to Gina Bolognese (Simon Frasier University) (Fall 0:53).

Caxton Smyth opened her tournament with a loss to Ella Jauregui (California) by fall (Fall 0:37). The following round, Smyth received a bye followed with a win by decision over Alexia Mendoza (Kentucky) (Dec. 10-2). In the next round, Smyth would win by decision over McKenzie England (Texas Womens University) (Dec. 10-2). However, Smyth’s tournament would come to an end against Isavella Ngo (Iowa) where she would lose by tech fall (TF 10-0). Caxton Smyth went 2-2 and scored 1.5 team points for the Tigers.

Marisol Castillo lost her opening match against Eny Bravo Torcios (Midland University) by fall (Fall 0:57). Castillo would lose her consolation match against Morgan Cope (McKendree University) by fall (Fall 1:41).

Emily Hess would win her first match by fall over Tambria Wilson (Central Methodist University) (Fall 5:08). Hess would lose her second-round match to Jewel Gonzalez (Gannon University) by fall (Fall 0:26). She then received a bye in the consolation bracket, then would go on to lose by fall to Saiheron Preciado-Meza (University of the Cumberlands) (Fall 0:40). Emily Hess went 1-2 and scored 3.0 team points for the Tigers.
