Chanute High School boasts a long tradition of wrestling excellence, winning the school’s first state wrestling championship in 2020. One of the first people that Coach Nothern met when he was hired to take over the Neosho program was Andy Albright. Andy is the longtime head wrestling coach at Chanute High School and was determined to build a relationship between CHS wrestling and Neosho wrestling. Since 2017, there have been 9 former Comets to join the Neosho wrestling program.

This season the Panthers are excited to have 5 former Comets on the team, including two sets of brothers. Brady and Logan McDonald, both standouts on the 2020 state championship team, join the program as freshman this fall and look to make an immediate impact on the program. Dalton Misener, a sophomore, continues to be a leader on and off the mat. Dalton had a strong freshman campaign and looks to find a starting spot in the line-up this season. The second set of brothers are well-known throughout the state of Kansas, 2012 and 2014 graduates, Sam and Alex Son. Sam and Alex were both state champions in their senior seasons at CHS and have decided to give college wrestling another shot under Coach Nothern.

The Panther’s will host 3 home double-duals this season and expect to see a large turnout from local wrestling fans. “I’m excited to see the support we will get this season, having 5 Chanute guys on the team, along with 5 others from Fredonia, Iola and Garnett. The environment at our home duals should be electric.”
