INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Newman Wrestling competed at the NCAA Super Regional IV on Saturday. The event hosted by the University of Indianapolis was the Jets’ second trip east after a holiday trip to the Midwest Duals in December. Three Jets finished on the podium, including Dylan Sheler who punched his ticket to Nationals, set to be hosted in Wichita.

En route to his first Nationals appearance is Sophomore, Dylan Sheler. Sheler emerged victorious in two close contests in the quarterfinals and semifinals, winning both by decision. With a win over MIAA opposition in the quarter final and defeating Drury’s Caden Howard, Sheler secured his spot in the National Championships.

Sheler would place second, falling in the super Regional IV 125 lb championship to McKendree’s Christian Mejia.

Jace Fisher looked for a return trip to nationals after qualifying in 2023. Fisher got off to a fast start, defeating his first two opponents by technical fall and fall. UCO’s Hunter Jump knocked off Fisher in the semifinals by decision.

In the consolation semifinal, Fisher picked up yet another victory over Central Missouri’s John Ridle, who Fisher defeated last month in a dual. Fisher’s outstanding season ended the third-place match as a berth to nationals evaded the junior. Second ranked Cory Peterson defeated Fisher in the narrowest of margins, 2-1.

Chris Mapp placed sixth in the 174 weight class, picking up a win against William Wilson from conference foe Ouachita Baptist.

The NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championships will be held at Hartman Arena on March 15th and 16th in Wichita, where Dylan Sheler will represent the Jets in the hunt for a national championship.
