Henry Opens National Championships Friday

Fort Hays State Men’s Wrestling
at 2024 NCAA Division II Men’s Wrestling Championships

Friday-Saturday, March 14-15, 2024 • 10 a.m.
Wichita, Kan. • Hartman Arena
 
Fort Hays State junior wrestler Tereus Henry will compete at his third national championships this weekend (March 14-15) at Hartman Arena just north of Wichita, Kan. The two-time regional champion will look to add a second All-American trophy to his resume after placing third at the national tournament last season.
 
Friday’s morning session is slated to begin at 10 a.m. and feature all opening round and first round matches (120 bouts). Session two will begin at 5 p.m. and include the quarterfinals and the first two rounds of wrestlebacks (120 bouts).
 
Saturday will also feature two sessions, with the morning again beginning at 10 a.m. That session will include all semifinal matches and the remainder of the consolation bracket, including placement matches for third, fifth and seventh place (90 bouts). The weekend will conclude Saturday evening at 7 p.m. with the 10 championship finals matches (10 bouts).
 
All session passes are available online for $50, with single session tickets also available for $20.

With a season record of 27-7, Henry earned the No. 6 seed in this year’s 197-pound bracket. He will face off with Ethan Lopez from King University in the first round. Lopez is 11-5 this season and reached the national championships after placing third at the Super Region II Championships.
 
With a win, Henry would advance to the quarterfinals to take on the winner of No. 3 seed Dominic Murphy (St. Cloud State) and Trever Begin (Mercyhurst).
 
Henry placed third at 197 pounds last season, going 4-1 at the national meet after going 0-2 in his first trip to nationals in 2022. The El Paso, Texas native is 4-3 in his career at nationals and is 18-5 overall in the NCAA postseason when combined with his 14-2 record at regionals.
 
The junior led the Tigers with 27 wins this season, including a team-high 14 bonus-point wins and eight technical falls. His eight technical falls rank inside the top 25 amongst all DII competitors nationwide. Henry is 20-5 against NCAA DII opponents this season.
 
For his career, Henry is 11-11 against the other 17 competitors in the field. He was 4-4 against national qualifiers this season and held a 6-3 record against this year’s national field in 2022-23.
 
Henry has faced off with nine other 2024 national qualifiers in his career, including two wins over No. 3 seed Dominic Murphy (SCSU), one win over No. 5 seed Dakoda Rodgers (UPJ), one win over No. 7 seed Max Ramberg (AUGIE) and four wins against No. 8 seed Jackson Kinsella (UNK).
