Men's Wrestling Place 4th at District Championships

Northwest Tech Men’s Wrestling competed at the South Central District Championships in Great Bend, KS, on Saturday. The Mavs finished fourth overall, with Carl Albert State finishing ahead of them in third, Pratt in second, and Labette in first. All nine Maverick wrestlers that competed at districts qualified for the national tournament.

Coach Guillot commented, “I’m excited to see the boys compete at Nationals and look forward to the challenge.” 

Notable Performances:

Dayton Bell (149lbs) placed 3rd, winning his first match by major decision, losing in the quarterfinals to #3 Gabe Maki (Pratt CC) by decision, winning the semifinals by major decision, and then winning the third-place match by sudden victory. Job Lee (157lbs) placed 1st, winning over all three of his opponents by fall while also pinning #2-ranked Noah Smith (Carl Albert State) in the second period of the finals. Job also received the Freshman of the Year conference award. Otgonbayar Batsuuri (174lbs) placed 1st, winning his first match over #3 Tye Frnka (Northeast Oklahoma) by major decision, winning in the quarterfinals by technical fall, winning over Matthan Mason (Carl Albert State) by decision, and winning in the championship by major decision over #6 ranked Garrett Davis (Labette). Lazaro Crespo (184lbs) placed 1st, winning his first two matches by technical fall, winning in the semifinals by decision over #7 ranked Gabriel Commons (Northeast Oklahoma), and winning by decision over #4 Blake Jouret (Pratt CC) in the championship.

The Mavericks’ next competition will be at the NJCAA Wrestling Championships, starting March 1st and continuing through the 2nd. The championships will be held in Council Bluffs, IA.
